Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Green Tech Africa, a leader in sustainable and affordable green technology solutions, has announced a landmark partnership with WHC Solar of China. Representing Green Tech Africa, Eng. Haftom Tedla participated in a pivotal meeting held in September 2024 to finalize a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on the production of photovoltaic (solar) panels.
This partnership is aimed at elevating the use of renewable energy systems in Africa, addressing critical issues such as irrigation challenges, energy access, and unemployment. The collaboration focuses on the transfer of knowledge and training in key areas of solar panel production, including:

1. Photovoltaic (Solar) Panel Assembly
- Stringing: Connecting solar cells into strings to create larger modules.
- Lamination: Laminating strings with ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and tempered glass for protection.
- Back Sheet Application: Applying back sheets to safeguard cells from environmental damage.
2. Framing
- Utilizing aluminum frames to provide structural support and ease installation while protecting the panel edges.
3. Quality Control and Testing
- Conducting visual inspections and performance tests under standard conditions.
- Certifying panels to meet global industrial standards, such as IEC and UL certifications.
Further discussions explored advancing the production process to include cell fabrication, wafer production, and silicon ore purification key steps in creating a fully integrated renewable energy manufacturing ecosystem in Africa.
